The 21-year-old Kalaheo man who suffered critical injuries after a Jan. 16 motor vehicle accident in Lawai has been downgraded to fair condition.
He remains hospitalized at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, where he was medivaced about 4 1/2 hours after first being treated at Wilcox Memorial Hospital’s emergency room. Queen’s took over patient care at about 10:20 p.m. that night.
At about 4:30 p.m. Jan. 16, the victim was driving a compact Dodge pickup truck near Menehune Food Mart, and was slammed by an east-bound full-size Ford truck while attempting to turn south from Oyama Road onto Kaumuali’i Highway. His passenger and the driver of the other truck were not seriously injured.
Traffic Safety investigators are assessing whether speed and intoxication were factors in the crash.
