Tired of getting high bids from local painting contractors, general contractor Ed Bittner (Bittner Construction) decided to take the advice of a partner and form Bittner Painting.
Jim Potts, who is still a licensed painting contractor in California, is that partner, who approached Bittner with the idea of starting their own painting company.
Now, Bittner Painting has eight full-time painters, specializing in repainting hotels, apartment buildings and single-family homes.
Even after the current building boom subsides, there will still be a need for quality painting contractors, Potts said.
“People are always going to need things painted,” he said. “There will always be repainting to be done.”
The new company purchases all of its paint and supplies locally, and Potts said local painting contractors can get the best paint and supplies available without leaving Kaua’i to do so.
Bittner’s reputation as a builder of fine Kaua’i homes has meant that people approach him for their home-construction needs based on that reputation alone, without ever meeting him before, said Potts.
That reputation, early on in the history of Bittner Painting, seems to include the new painting company as well, Potts added.
