The Kaua’i County Council yesterday approved a right-of-entry for the newly-created Kaneka Street, Ulu Maika Street and Nuhou Street in Puhi.
The action expedited the opening of roads that are anticipated to reduce traffic flow on Kaumuali’i Highway in Puhi and Lihu’e during peak commute hours.
The new roads will allow Puhi residents quicker access to Chiefess Kamakahelei school, the Kukui Grove Shopping Center and Nawiliwili Road.
Prior to the council action, the county could not obtain quicker use of the roads due to a delay in the processing of right-of-entry paper work.
The roads were anticipated to be opened to the public by Thursday afternoon.
As a council condition for the expansion of a golf course and construction of new facilities on Grove Farm land by the Border’s Bookstore, Grove Farm was required to make the road improvements.
Grove Farm is expected to dedicate the road to the county after insurance matters are resolved by the county.
