Ozaki sinks Hole in One
George Ozaki, 82 years old of Lihue made a Hole in One at Wailua Golf Course’s 14th hole, 168 yards using a Taylor Made Driver on March 26.
He has been golfing for 40 years and this is his 3rd Hole In one.
Dennis Ikehara, 79 years old of Lihue, made a Hole in One at Wailua
Golf Course’s 17th hole, 173 yards during his No Hana Hana Golf Club tournament. This was his first hole in one in the 40 years he has been golfing.
Daylan Cummings had one of his better performances on the mound for the Lihu’e Diamondbacks, and combining with sister Daeja, sparked the Mustang team to a 16-4 win over the Lihu’e Red Sox in a makeup game played Wednesday afternoon at the Lihu’e County Park.
Daylan allowed no hits in his three-inning stint on the hill, walked six Red Sox batters, including two that capitalized on D’Backs’ miscues to get on the scoreboard in the second inning.
Reliever Austin Oshiro finished the remaining two innings, but not before suffering the same fate as Cummings, allowing two of his three walks to score in the fifth and final frame.
Jonathan Butac singled off Oshiro, but was left stranded in the fifth.
One of the umpires acknowledged Daylan’s pitching performance, noting, “Daylan had a good game. He threw about 60 pitches in three innings. When he started out, he used to throw that much in just one inning.”
Kevin Reyes and Kyle Nuivo shared the loss for the Red Sox as the D’Backs notched four runs in the opening frame off four hits, including a double from Daylan and singles from Travis Koga, Daeja Cummings, and Chris Suniga.
Overall, it was the bat of Daeja, 3-for-3, that sparked the D’Backs’ offense as the centerfielder pushed runs across the plate including three on a fifth inning triple.
D’Backs’ catcher, who kept the Red Sox off balance throughout the contest, joined Daeja with a 3-for-3 showing, including a frame-opening double in the fourth.
Butac had the sole hit for the Red Sox, with Erin Doi, Nuivo, Jewel Jerves, and Chevas Takahashi scoring in the loss, Jerves and Takahashi crossing the plate in the fifth frame.
