Joshua Rivera had a profitable weekend as he scooped up almost $500 by taking the top berths in two categories of the 17th Annual Waipouli Variety Jackpot Shoreline Fishing Tournament that weighed in the weekend’s catch on Sunday, April 27.
Rivera, in the company of Tokim Suzuki and Fernando Garcia, bumped Paka Ornellas from the leader position in the Ulua Division with a big black that weighed in at 59.0 pounds for the top purse of $255.
A 5.51-pound oio netted another $235 for Rivera as the top fish in that category.
Other winners included Ornellas taking the top Papio purse with a 9.89-pound submission, just .01 pound better than Shawn Yasay’s entry.
Richard Furumoto may have had to settle for second place in the Oio division, but his 6.42-pound moi couldn’t be beat in that competition, and a 24-pound kahala netted Yasay the top prize in the Others Five Pounds and Over category.
Melvin Aki had a 4.90-pound nenue that topped the Others Under Five Pounds category.
