Clara Akuna
Clara Akuna of Hanapepe, died at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home on April 9, 2003, at the age of 87.
Born in Waimea, on Dec. 13, 1915, she was a tour guide.
She is survived by three sons, Edward (Pat) Taniguchi, Nicholas (Nancy) Taniguchi, Gordon Akuna; two daughters, Ermine (Abraham) Kailikini, Beverly Kahaleoume Dickson; three hanai children, Stephanie Iwai, Audrey Akuna, Ermine Akuna; brother, Anthony Dido (Gertrude) Taniguchi; sister, Elmira Apo, 44 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, 35 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, April 14, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Faithmarie Kay
Faithmarie Kay of Koloa died on May 29, 2003, at the age of 75.
Born in Greenbay, Wisc. on April 7, 1927, she was a fashion designer under the label FAITHMARIE. She was dedicated to and served her church as secretary to Father Gordy of Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo for 8 years.
Preceded in death by her son: Hogan Kay, she is survived by her husband, Ernest Kay of Koloa; son, Jim Kay of Parker, Ariz.; hanai children, Kevin and Karla Anderson of Oma’o, Tracy and Rich Minero of Waimea; 2 hanai grandchildren; and two brothers, Ray Fey of Middleton, Wisc., and Don Fey of Illinois.
Donations may be made to the Hawaii Cancer Society. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Elizabeth Slater
Elizabeth Slater of Anahola died at Wilcox Mem Hosp. on April 7 at the age of 84.
Born in Anahola on Sept. 11, 1918, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Kalani Slater of Anahola and Flynn (Magdalene) Wood of Issaquah, WA.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (Ahsau) Ahana of Lihue and Luka Texeira of Anahola; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 15, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service to begin at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery.

Jaime B. Nelmida
Jaime B. “Braddah Kimo” Nelmida died April 4, 2003, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 64.
Born March 1, 1939, he was a former radio announcer at KTOH and KUAI 720, and a musician at the Kaua’i Surf Hotel and Kauai Resorts.
He is survived by one son, Bradley (Christina) Nelmida of Kalaheo; daughter Megan (Arthur) Rice of Kalaheo; brother Ben (Lola) Pascua of Oregon, Smitty (Betty) Nelmida of Honolulu; sisters Veronica Galloway of Honolulu; Paz Valdez of Kaua’i and Felipa (Bucky) Maurin of California; grandchildren Daedryn Nelmida and hanai grandchildren Daysha-Lynn and Kaimana; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, with services at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
The family requests casual attire. Borthwick Mortuary is handling arrangements.
