Beginning this Sunday, May 18, and running through Saturday, June 7, representatives of a national cooperative corporation will be conducting telephone surveys of members of Kaua’i Island Utility Cooperative.
“We are attempting to create a baseline measurement of member identity and satisfaction on a variety of attributes,” said Alton Miyamoto, KIUC president and chief executive officer.
“We need to determine if member needs are being met, and begin to base some of our strategic decisions on those determinations.”
The co-op has selected National Rural Electrical Cooperative Association (NRECA) Market Research Services to conduct this first member identity and satisfaction study. NRECA is the national organization of electric cooperatives, based in Washington, D.C.
Its Market Research Services division has conducted many polls for cooperatives across the country.
Anne Barnes, director of communications at KIUC, said NRECA officials would provide a report with conclusions and recommendations of the research. The report will be “a jumping-off point” for KIUC strategic planning.
“It is our hope that the final data collection and report from NRECA will answer some specific questions facing KIUC,” she said. “To that end, we are asking the membership to participate in the survey if called.
“We want to give our members an opportunity to have a say, and to be a part of the decisions being made that will affect Kaua’i’s energy future. Cooperatives are all about member ownership, member participation and member satisfaction,” she said.
