The Hawaii Hotel Association Visitor Industry Charity Walk is Kauai’s Largest fund raising event with a goal of $120,000.
The annual event is set to begin early tomorrow morning.
The charity walk begins at the Kukui Grove Center Pavilion at 6:30 a.m. with a light breakfast, and late registration, a warm up and safety briefing.
The walk begins at 7 a.m. sharp.
A recent announcement has been made for the availability of application forms for those requesting 2003 funds. Eligible candidates are non-profit and charitable groups including corporations, associations, foundations and schools.
All Visitor Industry Charity Walk funds remain on Kaua’i so programs located outside the county of Kaua’i are not eligible. Allocations are considered on the basis of need and impact. And vary widely in scope and size.
The Boys and Girls Club-Kapa’a Club House was recently visited by Deborah Baker, the Charity Walk Charitable Organization chairperson, where 2002 funds were put to use purchasing computers and printers for students.
“Not only does the Boys and Girls Club provide the equipment they also provide training in Internet safety, designing Web sites, tech and design training. Once the homework is done of course” said Baker.
All non-profit and charitable organizations are encouraged to submit an application. Applications can be obtained by contacting Deborah Baker at 826-2773. All applications must be received by June 15.
The walk is open to residents and visitors, and this year’s theme is “All in Da ‘Ohana.”
The course is a 3.2-mile walk. A minimum pledge of $30 required, and the first 1800 walkers receive a free T-shirt.
The Garden Island newspaper and KQNG radio are helping to sponsor the walk, assisting the Hawaii Hotel Association in promoting the event.
Entertainment includes emcee Ron Wiley from KQNG radio, and a special performance by comedian Andy Bumatai.
Walkers may pick up a pledge form from event recruiters, or a Big Save store, and at Menehune Food-Marts, or register on the day of the walk at the Kukui Grove Pavilion.
Recruiters include: Carol Furtado, chair of the event at 742-8850; Lucy Mehta-North Shore, at 826-4747 ext. 24; Jan Miyamoto-East Side 823-1624; Eric Kaya-Lihu’e 635-6713; Julie Souza-County of Kaua’i, 241-6300;
