Kaua’i Soccer Club has taken a giant step forward in soccer on the island by awarding a college scholarship to a player who has been with the club since its birth eight years ago.
LaRisa Nebre, of Kilauea, has earned the 2003 KSC College Scholarship. Nebre is a senior at Kapa’a High School. She has been on the Honor Roll all four years in high school, National Honor Society, photography contest winner in “Crossroads”, KHS varsity soccer team captain for two years, track and field team, cross country squad, Interact and Spirit Clubs and is a black belt with Seibukan Karate-Do.
Nebre has been playing soccer since 1992 in AYSO, HYSA and at Kapa’a High School. She has been coached in both leagues by Gwen Tamura, Christian Marston and Kevin Devitt. Her team, ESG GU 16-19, took the Kaua’i Soccer Association championship the same night she received her KSC scholarship.
Nebre is also a referee and assistant coach.
“She has proven herself to be a leader on and off the field, assisting and teaching other players,” her coach said.
She will be pursuing a degree in medicine at Seattle University.
