A man drowned in waters fronting Kiahuna Plantation Thursday night. He was about 30 years old, and believed to be from Kaua’i, according to initial reports.

Kaua’i Fire Department personnel responded to a 6:48 p.m. call that a swimmer was in distress in waters fronting the Kiahuna Plantation at Po’ipu. The swimmer was reportedly brought to shore by surfers. Surfers were performing CPR on the victim when fire personnel arrived at 6:53 p.m.
American Medical Response paramedics tried to resuscitate the man for about half an hour.
The victim was transported to the Wilcox Memorial Hospital emergency room.
