Fely Sams of Orchid Alley in Kapa’a works to prepare orchids for shipping to the mainland for customers that did not realize that it takes time to get fresh flowers to the mainland.
Sams spent her Mother’s Day and Monday getting potted orchids prepared for shipment, and said this year’s orders have been excellent.
Part of the reason was a mention of Orchid Alley in a travel eatur that appeared in The New Yorks Times several weeks ago. The article, part of the newspaper’s “36-hours” travel series, was written by Charlie Roessler of Kapa’a.
The Sams didn’t realize that their little alley-way operation in Kapa’a town could attract the attention of a national newspaper.
Sams plans to celebrate her own Mother’s Day on Sunday.
