Duo reign at competition
OAHU — Kainoa Lum of Kapaa High School took home first place in the Junior Men’s 15-17 bodyboarding competition held at the HASA State Championship meet held on June 10.
Cory Mira of Kauai High was third at the event. Kainoa won with a perfect score of 9.75. In the boys bodyboarding event, Kula School’s David Philips was fourth followed by Jeremy Ferguson of Kauai High in fifth place.
Garden Island R/C results
Arnold Morales took the top qualifier honor and battles hard with very good fellow racers and ended up with the victory on the Nitro Sedan A Division on Sunday at the Garden Island R/C event. Eleven year old Seth Morales battle hard with adult racers trading leads back and forth on the Nitro Sedan B division and ended with the win. As for the Nitro Truck class Cyle Damasco took top honors and TQ of the day.

East Kauai takes 7-6 victory
The Kauai Sr. Softball League played games on Saturday. In the opener, East Kauai needed eight innings to take a 7-6 win over West Kauai.
Walter Silva got the win. Joe Silva took the loss. Don Boro was East Kauai’s big bat with a homer on 3 hits. West Kauai’s Danny M, Ben Aranio and Boni Garma all paired hits.
In the second game, the K-Makule outscored East Kauai 19-10. Dado Piaste picked up the win handing Ronnie Holt the loss. Guy Ruiz went 4 for 4. East Kauai’s, Don Boro, Damien Victorino, Alex Youn, Sonny Waialeale and Norman Holt all smacked 2 hits.
The third game went eight innings with Kawaihau scoring 5 runs in the top of the 8th to take a 10-7 win. Teddy Daligdig went the distance for the win. Louis Nuseco led the Kawaihau bats with 4 hits. Cal Fujita with 3. Ben Pescador and Rico Morris chipped in with 3 hits for the Aces.
The Rookies took the Lihue “A”s 11-3 with Archi Fontanilla getting the win. Walter Souza laced 3 hits for the Rookies. Joe Brun got 3 hits with the bat for the “A”s. Next games will be the final games plated at Kawaihau Field. In the first game 9:15 a.m. Kawaihau 3-7 takes on the 11-0 Rookies, the second game West Kauai 6-5 meets Kawaihau. Game 3, East Kauai 4-7 gets the 6-5 Lihue “A”s, K-Makules 6-5 vs the 1-10 Kuku’s Aces.
The Rookies locked up both rounds. West Kauai was runner up in the first round. The Lihue “A”s with a win over the Kuku’s Aces and East Kauai will get the runner-up spot in the second round. Both West Kauai and K-Makules are 1/2 game back of the “A”s.
