KAPAA — A rally by the Native Gurlz in the bottom of the second pulled the Kapaa team ahead 7-6 enroute to a 11-11 deadlock as they tangled with Da Wahines of Lihue in the Young Jr. Olympic Girls Softball season Wednesday afternoon at the New Kapaa Ball Park.
The Native Gurlz held the 7-6 score on the 7-run league ruling, but Da Wahines hammered back in the third with five runs only to have the Native Gurlz answer back in the bottom of the third for the eventual stalemate. The contest was called on a time limit after three innings.
Darcie Allianic handled the pitching for Da Wahines, striking out three, and allowing eight walks while the Native Gurlz turned to Jocelyn Enrique who finished with a strikeout and six walks.
Jaezelle Balilea topped Da Wahines’ batting, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases, and notching a pair of runs. Allianic finished 3-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases and scoring four runs. Stephanie Kawamura topped the Native Gurlz’s lumber yard with a 2-for-2 showing, scoring a pair of runs.
Da Wahines will take the field today when they host West Kauai at Isenberg Field starting at 10 a.m. The Native Gurlz will do battle with Lihue’s second team, Hokuala, with that first pitch scheduled for noon at Isenberg.

Island Rebels 9, Native Gurlz 3
Native Gurlz’s Cherisse Labuguen struck out 10 Island Rebels’ hitters, but suffered a 9-3 loss in a game plagued by two delays caused as the lights went dark at the New Kapaa Ball Park.
Labuguen suffered the loss with six walks as Island Rebels’ Sherri Gebauer picked up the win on six strikeouts and a walk.
The Native Gurlz’s defense committed just an error in the loss while the Island Rebels left the field with six miscues.
Offensively, the Island Rebels were led by Jenna Mercado, Kainoa Dejos, and Angela Kirchner, Mercado and Dejos going 2-for-4 with two scored runs each. Eighth grader Jocelyn Enrique, who had earlier pitched the 14 Under team to an 11-11 tie, brought Kapaa into the game with a critical three-run double that scored Charisse Labuguen, Cassie Wong, and Eliza Vicoy.
The Native Gurlz will travel to Waimea today for a doubleheader against Waimea starting at 10 a.m.
