In a rain delayed game Na Pali Properties and Savage Pearls squared off in the Peter Hollenbeck Memorial last Sunday at Anini Polo Field.
The action was non-stop, continuing until the final seconds of the game when Stuart Mackenzie slammed the ball between the pylons to even the score at 5-5. Two seconds later the final horn sounded.
Jane Abramo of Na Pali Properties tossed in the ball to start the first chukker.
Max Secunda helped Savage Pearls take an early lead by scoring a goal in the opening minutes of the game. There was plenty of action with tight play involving tricky stick work, serious riding off, and exceptional hooking.
Peter Ganibi was able to capture the ball from a melee late in the period to score. Not to be outdone, Mackenzie retaliated with a goal of his own.
Secunda made a nice play in the second period when he gained control of the ball in a corner, centered it, and snaked through traffic to score.
When a penalty 3 was called against Savage Pearls, Bonaguidi took the free hit from 40 yards to an open goal and smartly knocked the ball between the pylons.
Barbara Hollenbeck tossed in the ball to open the third chukker.
Each team put up one goal on the scoreboard as the fast-paced game continued. Ganibi scored first on a Penalty 2 conversion from 30 yards to an undefended goal.
Late in the period Bonaguidi slammed the ball between the goal posts with a difficult, neatly executed, nearside forehand shot.
Action was fast and furious as the final chukker got under way.
At about the four minute mark Savage Pearls put together a splendid offensive maneuver setting up the opportunity for Peter Cameron to score. Savage Pearls was up 5-3.
But now Mackenzie swung into high gear and dominated the remainder of the game. Shortly before the 30 second bell he tallied a marker; and, with two seconds remaining, charged through the goal mouth with the ball to create a 5-5 tie.
