Kaua’i’s July Fourth celebration began on Friday morning at the Kauai Veterans Center on Kapule Highway in Lihu’e.
An all-day program included the official dedication of a refurbished Vietnam era A4E fighter jet and a marking of the 50th anniversary of the end of the Korean War.
Kiichi Fujii, left, photographed the event, as Frank Cruz and Bob White undid the maile lei formalizing the dedication of the A4E fighter jet display, along with the plaques honoring veterans of the Korean War.
A stand down was held where all names of Korean War veterans who died were read followed by solitary clang from a bell.
The Kaua’i Veterans Council honor guard fired a 21-gun salute to bring the morning section of the program to a close.
Ed Kawamura, below, made a final walk-through the Korean War veterans’ plaque prior to the start of the ceremonies hosted by the Kaua’i Veterans Council.
Volunteer work on the jet fighter, plaques and celebration involved local veterans, friends and family, as well as support from the Navy’s Pacific Missile Range facility.
