Chris Jensen is building homes on Kaua‘i using a building system not too unlike that employed by Sears a century ago.
His Kapa‘a-based home building company – Jensen of Hawaii, Inc. – is offering Kaua‘i residents what he calls an affordable home construction package by pre-building sections of his homes before they are shipped to Kaua‘i from the Pacific Northwest.
The process is call the Custom Building System.
When the materials arrive, each stud, joist and other wood framing lumber is pre-numbered, and wall panels are ready to rise with windows in place.
This week Jensen’s crew put the walls up and completed most of the interior framing of a home in the Molokoa subdivision, saving days of labor. Jensen is working with local contractors and subcontractors in building the homes and offers a wide range of home plans.
The construction company president said he can help get home buyers into homes at a reasonable cost to help offset the rising cost of land on Kaua‘i. Plans for the homes are inspected by a Kaua‘i-based engineer, and the company can work with buyers in obtaining permits and other facets of construction.
