KALAHEO — Karen Matsumoto, one of the coordinators for the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association (KYBA) announced a series of goodwill basketball games scheduled for this weekend at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
According to Matsumoto, an O‘ahu 12 Under team will be on Kaua‘i, and expressed an interest in playing some Kaua‘i teams which resulted in the two-day series.
Games will be played today starting at 5:30 p.m. and continuing on Sunday starting at 12:30 p.m.
Today’s games will feature the Magic going against Wailua at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Lihu‘e On Fire taking on the visiting NJB Hawai‘i at 6:30 p.m.
Lihu‘e Breakaway will play Wailua at 7:30 p.m. with the Eastside Warriors closing out today’s play against the NJB Hawai‘i starting at 8:30 p.m.
Sunday’s action will open with Wailua taking on NJB Hawai‘i at 12:30 p.m. with the Lihu‘e On Fire playing the Eastside Warriors at 1:30 p.m.
Lihu‘e Breakaway will match up against NJB Hawai‘i at 2:30 p.m. with the Magic closing out the series against the Eastside Warriors starting at 3:30 p.m.
Overall winner of this weekend series will be determined by points accumulation based on number of games played and won.
Matsumoto noted that this joint venture between the KYBA and the county of Kaua‘i is being made possible through the contribution of former mayor Maryanne Kusaka who will be contributing to cover the costs of having the game officials present.
