Members of the Joe’s on the Green softball team won the 2003 Visitor Industry Co-ed Softball Tournament held Sunday at the Anne Knudsen Park in Koloa.
Joe Batteiger of Joe’s on the Green said he was surprised that his team took the championship considering they were late in entering.
Princeville Hotel dropped out late, making it possible for Joe’s to play in the eight-team field, which included teams from major resorts and visitor industry organizations.
Joe’s, advancing through the winner’s bracket, battled the Hyatt Regency team twice on Sunday to clinch the championship. Hyatt “warmed up the team” with a 9-1 opening win to force the second and championship contest that was taken by Joe’s 7-4 for the trophy.
Team members include Jesse Clapp, Gary and Nancy Tocatlian, Mark Koehler, Dennis McKee (coach), Lenito Nacnac, Leonard Aquinaldo and Batteiger.
The Hyatt Regency Kauai team took second in the tournament.
Other teams involved in the 2003 tournament include two teams from the Kauai Marriott, Sheraton Kauai, Embassy Resorts, and two teams from Kaua’i Lagoons.
