KALAHEO – Mikey Corollo fired a game-high 18 points to lead Northshore to a 58-51 win over the Southside Boys Tuesday night in Kalaheo as the KYBA 17 Under Boys basketball program continued its season with a pair of games.
Missing the services of their key forwards Futi Tavana and Casey Kaohelaulii who are on the mainland involved in a volleyball tournament there, Southside turned to step-up play from Reese Senda who suffered a reinjury, sending him in and out of the court for rebandaging.
Senda got help from Josh Bradbury, but Southside fell with Jeremy Manuel and Tab Matsumoto leading the offensive effort with 22 and 18 points respectively.
Corollo got help from a 12-point contribution off Mike Lindsey’s hands and another 10 markers popped in by Kaylan Dolor in the win, Lindsey racking up 10 of his dozen markers in the second half.
The evening’s opener saw Akeem Allen work both ends of the court to lead the Westsiders to a 39-28 win over the Lihu’e Kings who were led by Alec Reichle firing 11 points in the loss.
Allen, whose offensive posture received the inside feed, finished the night with 11 points with Jordan Shea supplementing the effort with six markers.
Aukai Dennis finished with six and Desmond Rodrigues chipped in five markers in the win.
Lance Okasaki and Kekoa Crowell were checked for just four points apiece, with Kaleo Perez and Kamu Kawaihalau adding a trio each in the Lihu’e loss, Crowell and Perez combining for seven of the Kings’ 13-6 second quarter.
