Hideichi Yamada
Hideichi Yamada of Kapa‘a, died at home on Aug. 13, 2003 at the age of 89.
Born in Kealia, Kaua‘i on Oct. 15, 1913, he was a Teacher at Kapa‘a HighSchool and Kaua‘i Community College.
He is survived by wife, Alice N. Yamada of Kapa‘a; two daughters, Virginia Yamada of Kapa‘a and Bonnie (Frederic) Peel of Kapahi; three grandchildren, Dawn (Elie) Sauma of Honolulu, Lara (Anthony) Hazenfield of Burlington, VT., and Jason (Karen) Peel of Honolulu; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Soichi (Ruth) Yamada of Kapa‘a and James (Minnie) Yamada of Honolulu; sister, Isano (Asaichi) Yasuda of Kapa‘a; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 3 p.m. on Monday, August 18, at Kapa‘a Hongwanji Mission; service officiated by Rev. Koho Takata will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Ed Unanian
Edward Unanian of Ha‘ena died on June 12, 2003, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 75.
Born in Moscow (USSR), Russia, on Aug. 23, 1927, he lived and went to school as a young man in Tehran (Persia), Iran and Beirut, Lebanon.
In 1949, he came to the United States and studied at Cal Aero Aeronautical School and at UCLA and USC.
Ed and his wife Betty moved to Kahuku, O‘ahu, in 1986, and finally settled in Ha‘ena in 1988. About 1989, Ed became a volunteer at the Kaua‘i Humane Society and it remained his favorite “occupation” for 14 years.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, Aug. 24, at the YMCA Camp Naue, in Ha‘ena, from 2 to 4 p.m. Friends are asked to bring a favorite memory of Ed and a pupu plate to share with his friends.
