Karen Rita
Karen K. Rita of Makaweli, died at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital on Aug. 4, 2003 at the age of 40.
Born on Ni‘ihau on Dec. 14, 1962, she was a Homemaker.
She is survived by husband, Frank M. Rita of Kalaheo; four sisters, Denise Kanahele of Makaweli, Rose Palakiko of Wai‘anae, O‘ahu, Wanda Kanahele of Hanapepe and Bettylou Pahulehua of Ni‘ihau; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo; mass officiated by Father Nap will begin at 11:30 a.m.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Ceferina Luczon
Ceferina Barbara Barcarse Luczon of Puhi, died at her home on July 30, 2003 at the age of 94.
Born in the Philippines on December 4, 1908, she was a plantation field employee for the Grove Farm Co.
She is survived by her son, Julian (Viviana Cabinatan) Luczon; 5 grandchildren, Julian Luczon Jr., Lorna (Michael) Navarro, Norman (Nora) Luczon, Clarence (Nani) Luczon, Angela (Rueben) Luczon; 16 great-grandchildren, Kimberly “Kimmie” Brun, Athena “Tina” Brun, Julian “Domie” Brun, Armando “Mundo” Navarro, Kurt “Kaika” Navarro, Norcie Luczon, Jaydee Luczon, Lainie Luczon, Wencey Luczon, Traman Luczon, Sara Luczon, Ashlyn Luczon, Chanlyn Luczon, Clarence “Keoki” Luczon and Emma Kim. She is preceded in death by her great-grandchild Sammy Luczon.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Aug. 8, at the Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Lihu‘e Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 9 a.m. to noon. Burial to follow at the Lihu‘e Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Gail Chamberlain
Gail Dickson Chamberlain died in LaJolla, Ca. on July 24, 2003. She was born on Oct. 30, 1916.
She is survived by her daughter, Lani (Herb) McCoy of LaJolla, Ca., and son, Bill (Susan) Chamberlain of Wailua, and grandchildren, Kristin and Michael.
Please join the family in a celebration of her life at 6 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 8, at 320 Aina Manu Place, Wailua Rise Estates, in Wailua Homesteads. A private scattering of ashes is pending, no flowers please.
Benjamin Akau Jr.
Benjamin “Kalani” Akau Jr. of Lihu‘e, died at Queen’s Medical Hospital, on August 1, 2003, at the age of 44.
Born in Honolulu on December 15, 1958, he was a courier for Diagnostic Laboratory and a deacon at The Koloa Church.
He is survived by his wife, Yulian “Putsie” Akau; two sons, Joshua and Kaupili Akau; daughter, Kuuipo Akau; parents, Benjamin and Debonair Akau Sr., five brothers, Glenn (Collette) Akau, Guy Akau, Danny (Kuulei) Akau, Dwayne (Erin) Akau, Ivan (Maria) Akau; sister, Dolly Anna (Edwin) Garces, numerous ohana and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Aug. 8, at Koloa Assembly of God Church from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. where service will begin at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at the church cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Paul Robert Mielke
Paul Robert Mielke of Kaua’i and Olympia, Wash., died July 18, 2003, at the age of 33.
He was born Dec. 28, 1969, in Upland, Calif., but considered Kaua‘i his home. He lived here seven years before moving to Olympia earlier this year to be closer to his mother during his last days.
He is survived by his mother, Linda; his son, Dylan; sisters and brothers, Cinnie Martinez; Misty Young; Mark Kutsch; Nicki Piturro; Heidi Microulis; Daniel Ibsen; 12 nieces and nephews along with countless friends and loved ones who were “family” to him.
In remembrance of Paul Mielke, a bonfire will be hosted by David Aguiar at Lydgate Beach (Heiau area) on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m.
A simultaneous celebration of his 33 years of life will be held in Reno, Nev., at 5 p.m. on Aug. 9.
Alice Yaeko Inomoto
Alice Yaeko Inomoto of Helena, MT, died June 27, 2003, at the age of 82.
Born June 10, 1921, in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, she is survived by daughter Cheri Bergeron of Helena, MT; sisters Helen McKay of Kailua, O‘ahu; and Dora Kurasaki of Los Altos, Calif.; brother George Uyematsu of Cameron, Calif., and granddaughter Emily Bergeron of Bozemon, MT.
Visitation will be at 1 pm. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Koloa Jodo Mission with funeral services at 2 p.m. Burial will be held Monday, Aug. 11, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe
The family asks that flowers be omitted and suggests casual attire.
