Support schools and be cautious and observant
“Children are the living messages we sent a time we will not see.” John Whitehead made this statement is an essay touching upon the family, human life, the church, and the schools. As I prepared to write an article as another school year begins, I though how appropriate.
Two thoughts come to mind as I pondered on what he said. First, to whom do your children belong? That’s obvious – they belong to me. If we agree, then, permit me to elaborate on what we may further agree upon. Your children don’t belong to the state, it’s your prerogative, privilege and responsibility to care for them, to help educate them, and mold them into proper citizens in our world.
Second, as children obviously anticipate being back in school and as adjustments needs to be made in one’s family life, let’s be mindful that there will be a slowdown in traffic, children in crosswalks, harried parents getting their sons and daughters to school, and unfamiliar stops. These sons and daughters are our most precious gift. Please support our schools and the new school year by being observant and cautious.
May the Lord Bless your child with a wonderful learning experience, and our teachers, principals, aides, secretaries, custodians, and crossing guards for their commitment to each child.
