North Shore golf tournament this Saturday
The Kaua‘i North Shore Lions Annual Memorial Golf Tournament is set to take place at the Princeville Makai Golf Course Saturday, Sept. 7.
A Honda Civic awaits the lucky player who scores a “hole in one” during the tournament on the Ocean No. 7 par-three hole.
Dr. Larry Sherrer of Pacific Eyewear is being honored as a guest player for the event.
Sherrer donated an “auto-refractor” valued at $24,000 that the North Shore Lions will use for a Lions eye conservation project in Nepal.

UH on the road
The Rainbow Wahine soccer team will be traveling to Southern California for three consecutive non-conference road games starting Sept. 5 when they meet Cal State Northridge at 2:30 p.m. PST.
On Sept. 7, the Rainbow Wahine will meet Long Beach State at 2 p.m. PST, and end their road trip with a UC Riverside match starting at 3 p.m. PST.
Coming off a second place finish in the Ohana Hotels & Resorts No Ka Oi tournament, UH fell to Arizona State, 0-4, before downing Bowling Green, 4-0.
Following 19 career matches, Natasha Kai has moved into fourth place in all-time career points with 41, surpassing Nicki Arakawa and trailing Veronica Flores and Jennifer Starsiak by just six points for second place.
Arlene Devitt, with a goal against Bowling Green, upped her school record point total to 76 while junior transfer Robyn deHay tied a school record with three assists in the UH win over Bowling Green. The Rainbow Wahine are 3-6 all-time in road openers and 25-59-3 all-time on the road.

The 32nd annual Queen Lili‘uokalani Long Distance outrigger canoe race was Aug. 30 – 31 in Kailua, Hawai‘i. More than 2,000 paddlers competed in the two-day event.
Host club Kai ‘Opua won the men’s and women’s divisions. with times of 1:59:20 and 2:04:48, respectively.
Chicks snuff Rockets, 10 – 2
Takara Kunioka fired four goals to propel the Wailua Soccer Chicks to a 10 – 2 win over the Kilauea Rockets in AYSO U10 Girls soccer played Saturday, Aug. 30 in Kilauea.
Nicole Isoda aided the effort with a pair of goals and goals by Koral Linser and Melissa Seymour rounded out the Chicks’ win.
Kyle Carillo and Lily Fredericksen each notched scores for the Rockets who noted outstanding play from Rochel Farias, Sunny Olen, Anabelle Marvin, Malina Lee, Victoria Terrazas, Abby Hammond and Onya Littlefield.
Taylor Foster, Taylor Ochoa, and Elizabeth Luttrell were noted as outstanding players for the Chicks.
