Edwin Tam
Edwin Bung Lun Tam, 80, died Aug. 29, 2003 at Kaiser Medical Center.
Born in Kapa‘a on Feb. 6, 1923, he was Assistant Dean and Associate Professor at the University of Hawai‘i School of Social Work in 1968. A year later he became Administrator of the Public Welfare Division of the Hawai‘i Department of Social Services he retired in 1978.
Tam is survived by sons, Douglas, Robert, Michael, and Carl; daughters, Margaret Baer and Lisbeth Tam; brother Gordon Tam and sisters Priscilla Leong and Marian Lynch. 5 grandchildren.
Services were held on Sept. 8, 2003 at Nuuanu Memorial Park.
Shinobu Sugahara
Shinobu “Sugi” Sugahara of Hanapepe died at home on Sept. 16, 2003, at the age of 78.
He is survived by sons Don Sugahara and Guy Sugahara of Honolulu; daughters, Judy Yoshinaga of Bellevue, Washington and Lillian Sugahara Jesse of Renton, Wash.; four grandchildren; brother Raymond Sugahara of Gardena, Calif.; and sister Jean Hayashi of Hanapepe.
At his request, there will be no services. Remembrances may be sent to Kauai‘i Hospice, P.O. box 3286, Lihue, HI 96766.
