Lorenzo Sagucio
Lorenzo Sagucio of Kalaheo, died at home on Sept. 23, 2003, at the age of 92.
Born Aug. 8, 1911, in Lanao, Bangui Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a retired irrigator engineer with Olokele Sugar Co.
He is survived by his wife, Josefina Fayloga Sagucio; one daughter, Esperanza (Orlino Sr.) Antolin; five grandchildren: Oriente Nakaahiki, Rosaly (Frank) Domenden, Leoni (Alan) Texeira, Orlino (Ivy) Antolin Jr. and Imelda (Paul) Delos Reyes; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers: Justo (Marcelis) Sagucio of the Philippines and Asuncion (Josefina Sagucio of Kekaha; two sisters, Maria Francisco Vidad and Trinidad de Asis of the Philippines; numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call on Friday, Oct. 10, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6 – 9 p.m. and again on Saturday, Oct. 11, at St. Johns Episcopalian Church in ‘Ele‘ele from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. where services will be at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Thomas J. Vidinha, Sr.
Thomas J. Vidinha, Sr., of Kalaheo, died at Regional Hospital in Seattle, Wash., on Sept. 30, 2003 at the age of 63.
Born in Makaweli, on Nov. 6, 1939, he was the Owner/Operator of Tommy’s Crane Service, Inc.
Preceded in death by father, Marion “Lumpy” Vidinha and mother, Helen Correa Vidinha. He is survived by wife, Carol; son, Thomas Vidinha Jr. of Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Jonette Vidinha of Vancouver, Wash. and Josette James of Newport News, Va.; three grandchildren, Jordan Heup-Vidinha of Vancouver, Wash., Keely James and Christopher-Thomas James, both of Newport News, Va.; two sisters, Lydia Carveiro and Joyce Abreu, both of Kalaheo; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo; service to begin at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Philomena Meatoga
Philomena Leialoha “Aunty Lei” Meatoga of Kapa‘a died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Oct. 4, 2003 at the age of 69.
Born in Maui on Aug. 23, 1934, she was a school teacher.
She is survived by her husband, Ko‘olauloa Meatoga; 13 children, Abel Kailiponi, Sheldene Cockett, Kelly Umiamaka, Vina Umiamaka Lee, Henry Kamaunu, Tracey Kamaunu, Thurston Kamaunu, Melody Kamaunu, Nobleen Kamaunu; Bruce, Debra, Brian and Kenneth Meatoga; five sisters, Gladys Grace, Bessie Thums, Betty Parker, Amy Cook, Darly Cockett; three brothers, Calvin Ontai, Edmond Puou and Johnson Puou, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Oct. 10 at Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church from 9 – 9:45 a.m. where services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Church Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Shimayo Hamamura
Shimayo Y. Hamamura of Anahola, died at home on Oct. 2, 2003 at the age of 90.
Born in New Mill, Wahiawa, on Jan. 1, 1913, she was a retired Postal Clerk at Anahola Post Office and Co-owner of Hamamura Store.
She is survived by son, Franklin (Elsie) Hamamura of Irvine, CA.; daughter, Lily Yamamoto of Anahola; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Kapa‘a Jodo Mission; service officiated by Rev. Ishikawa will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Constantino Ceda
Constantino Ceda of ‘Oma‘o, died at his residence on Oct. 6, 2003 at the age of 75.
Born in Kaua‘i on Feb. 14, 1928, he was a sewage treatment plant worker.
Preceded in death by two brothers, James Stacko and Lawrence Rendongo. He is survived by his wife, Consolation “Connie” Lopez Ceda of Koloa; daughter, Colleen Ceda of Hanama‘ulu; four sons, Colin Ceda of Koloa, Jon Ceda of Koloa, Corey (Malia) Ceda of Koloa, Darryl Pasatiempo of California; brother, William Redongo of California, two sisters, Leonora Kouchi of Makaweli, Kathrine (Joseph) Fraticelli of O‘ahu; sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Liz” Redongo of Koloa; one grand-daughter, Leilynn Ceda-Nunes; three grandsons, Jon Meguro Ceda, Micah Meguro Ceda, Iokua Ceda, numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.

Susan Sloan
Susan Sloan died in her Lihu‘e, Hawai‘i oceanfront home on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, surrounded in love by her adoring family.
Her daughter, Charlotte Barefoot, her son, Tad Hillin, who just recently moved to Lihu‘e from Texas to be with his mother and her son-in-law, Jordan Barefoot, were all by her side when she died. Other survivors in Texas include a brother, Tom Sloan, a niece Katie Cherryhomes and a nephew Tom Sloan, Jr. In addition, the children’s fathers, Don A. Hillin and John Duff Chesney. Susan was predeceased by her infant daughter Mary Jane Chesney.
Susan was born on Valentine’s Day, Feb. l4, l944 in San Angelo, Texas to an established oil and ranching family. There she spent her earliest years before moving to Midland, Texas, where she grew up. After attending the University of Texas – Austin, she moved back to Midland, where she lived for years. It was not until the mid-70s that she was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of living near the ocean and moved to Hawai‘i, where she lived on various islands for the next 30 years.
Skilled as an artisan/jewelry designer, Susan sold many of her works to various boutiques. Later in her career, she opened a successful tennis shop in Midland and in the mid-70s, started a lucrative vacation rental company on the North Shore of O‘ahu. Although her business talents were varied, her devotion as a Mother was her most cherished role.
Susan was diagnosed with cancer over a year-and-a-half ago. Her indomitable spirit prolonged her struggle to remain with her family for as long as possible.
Services will be held at Saint Michaels & All Angels Episcopal Church, Lihue on Friday, Oct. 10, at 5:30 p.m. where flowers may be sent or donations may be made in Susan Sloan’s honor to Kauai Hospice.
