KAPA‘A — Futi Tavana exploded late in the second game to counter the hard hitting of Kapa‘a’s Billy Toy as the Red Raider men went on to take their contest in three games, 25-15, 21-25, 25-14.
Tina Moger got help from Farren Higley up the middle as the Kaua‘i women earlier in the evening wrapped up their contest, also in three games, 20-25, 25-323, 25-16 as Kapa‘a opened up with a win behind the hitting of Poerava Gantt and nice fill-ins from middle blocker Brittney Carvalho, one of three freshman on the Kapa‘a varsity squad.
Jennifer Lindsey was also instrumental in the girls’ win, blocking and hitting up the middle when Carvalho rotated out.
Tavana got some help from the hitting of Garrett Sakimae, and key blocks from Justin McSheehy and Jonathan Smith while Kapa‘a got some blasts from Alika Woodward who added to the firepower of Toy and Ryan Cram.
The JV games saw Kapa‘a split, winning the boys’ contest25-20, 25-20 while Kaua‘i took the girls’ matches 25-7, 25-11.
Kaua‘i will travel to Waimea High School on Wednesday, Oct. 23 with the JV game starting at 3 p.m., and the varsity contest serving up no earlier than 5:30 p.m.
