• Make A Difference Day at the Gateway
To KPD Personnel
On or about October 31, 2003, there was a rash of bicycle thefts in the Koloa area. Many families and their children were affected.
We would like to commend the following Kauai Police Department employees for their concerted efforts in locating our son’s stolen bicycle: Officer Derek Lorita, Officer Mark Ofisa, Officer Arnel Purisima, Sergeant Larry Stem, Officer Clayton Okamoto, Lieutenant Dean Pigao and Eunice in Evidence. Because of their determination, perseverance and resourcefulness, our children can trust that law enforcement will be there for them.

For film festival
A belated, sincere mahalo goes out to Tiffani Lizama, our Kaua‘i Film Commissioner, from us 700 or so film buffs who were able to see (for free!) several very interesting and entertaining films a few weekends ago.
The Hawai‘i International Film Festival (HIFF) decided not to sponsor an event on Kaua‘i this year. They did sponsor events on all other Islands including Molokai and Lanai. Tiffani took up the challenge, flew to O‘ahu and met with the powers that be. Arrangements were made for many of the films to be sent here including “The Ride”, “American Aloha”, “Braddajo”, “The Red Hibiscus” and Storybook Theatre’s “Queen Emalani”.
A special surprise occurred during the screening Saturday night at the Convention Center as the writer/producer of “The Ride”, Nathan Kurosawa and its executive producer, Wesley Nakamoto, flew over from O‘ahu to talk to the crowd about the making of their wonderful film.
So, again a special mahalo to our Kaua‘i Film Commissioner Tiffani Lizama and her volunteer committee, Mel, Kendace, Magenta and Robert and to the venues that made themselves available on short notice – Hanapepe United Church of Christ, The Church of the Pacific, the Kaua‘i Village Theatre and the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Center.
Look for some film events during the next year – some screenings and some fundraisers – all to help promote quality film viewing here on Kaua‘i.
