If you’ve been waiting for a reason to indulge in fresh, super premium ice cream, the wait is over. Don and Barbie Taylor are opening their second Cold Stone Creamery at the Kukui Grove Shopping Center on Nov. 23.
“I think it will do very well,” said Don Taylor. “From the people I have been talking to, the Kapa‘a store business has been about 50 percent for local and visitor customers. That number could be more like 90 percent in favor of local customers at the Lihu‘e location.
“We like the Lihu‘e location because it is centrally located. For us, the population base is bigger and the store is located next to larger companies like Home Depot that have a large customer base.”
The first Cold Stone Creamery in Kaua‘i opened last January in Kauai Village Shopping Center. A third store is scheduled to open in Po‘ipu sometime in 2004.
“We want the newest store to be a place of destination,” said Don Taylor. “We want the store to be a place that people go to after dinner. Most of our customer traffic comes here between 7-9 p.m.”
According to the owners, the key to Cold Stone Creamery’s popularity is that the ice cream, frozen yogurt and sorbet are made fresh daily at each location. Guests can customize Cold Stone Creamery’s ice cream and yogurt with one or more of an almost unlimited variety of mix-ins, including fresh fruit and nuts, pie fillings, brand name chocolate and gummy candies, cookie dough, soft freshly baked brownies and more.
“Crew members fold the mix-ins and the ice cream together on a frozen granite stone set at 16 degrees, ensuring that the concoction is blended evenly and that the ice cream maintains a creamy consistency,” said the owners.
“A trip to Cold Stone Creamery is an ‘Ultimate’ treat,” said Barbie Taylor. “The moment you walk into Cold Stone Creamery you’ll experience the aroma of fresh-baked brownies and waffle cones, the sight of endless candies and toppings arranged above the granite stone, and the energy and enthusiasm of Creamery crew members who blend hundreds of Creations each day.”
Cold Stone Creamery, an independently owned franchise system headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz., was developed to offer countless combinations of ice cream Creations, and is carried through by a community of franchises passionate about ice cream.
Neither soft serve nor hard packed, Cold Stone Creamery’s secret recipe for smooth and creamy ice cream is made fresh daily in each store, then customized by combining a variety of mix-ins on a frozen granite stone.
Giant homemade waffle cones and bowls enhance the creations for an unforgettable ice cream experience.
“Customers have the freedom to make any creation they want,” said Don Taylor. “We are happy to be able to offer the ‘Ultimate Ice Cream Indulgence’ to Kaua‘i.”
Cold Stone Creamery currently has more than 400 stores operating in the U.S. and Caribbean with plans to establish 1,000 stores by 2004.
