Everything was done right way
Mr. Miller’s letter in today’s Garden Island was not only a surprise but I’m wondering if he has been following all the articles published in the past two weeks.
I am a neighbor on this property and have taken with great interest my new neighbor’s endeavor. I can tell you that he is no billionaire developer passing payments under the table to our respected county officials. There are also no grubbing violations because he went through the permit process before he started and as far as grading violations, he did no grading.
The owner Jim Gair took extreme cautions to berm the length of the stream, plant grass seed on it and put up the silt fence’s that the permit required. I know for a fact that his main concern was the stream and the ocean it pours into. He is a surfer, paddler, fisherman which only enhances his respect for the ocean and the environment.
The County was at the site almost daily to monitor the work in progress and to see that there was no violations.
Mr. Gair is a home owner, clearing his ag land to plant tropical flowers and palms for the resale market. He will also be mulching all the Albezia trees that were grubbed and lay stacked back into the soil for his farming.
I agree, as will most North Shore residents that pass this land, it is a far cry from what we are used to seeing but in a few months it will take on a much more pleasing site than in its current state.
Mr. Gair has the support of all his neighbors as well as the Kalihiwai Ridge Home Owners Association President Gary Pierce, in turning this land into useful agricultural farming land. It seems to me, that both the county and the landowner did what each was required to do.
