Seasons change
The Holiday season and the first signs of winter are upon us.
Thanksgiving is late this year, falling at the end of November. This will compress the Christmas season during which the Island is expected to receive more than its share of visitors.
A long list of charitable efforts aimed at feeding the hungry and the lonely on Thanksgiving Day seems to be longer than usual, perhaps reflecting the rising homeless statistics released earlier this week.
The north winds of the past few days, along with the large swells rolling in from the North Pacific, are bringing cool weather and a welcome seasonal change.
The long shadows of our shortened days and the clear weather brought on by the north winds add a special shine to Kaua’i’s already spectacular beauty.
While some would say Kaua’i has but one season, days like these show that we have almost monthly variations in climate, if you are aware enough to notice the subtle changes as daytime and nighttime temperatures began to drop.
We are fortunate that a snowy, freezing winter is just something most of us will only see on television.
This reality is more than enough reason to pay the high price of paradise that it takes to live on Kaua’i.
Despite our high gasoline and electrical prices, our sky-high real estate costs and the premium we pay for groceries compared to mainland prices, we more than make out in our daily lives through being able to wear casual clothes year-round and through the wonderful environment we live in that we can easily enjoy every day of the year.
