Joseph Legradi
Joseph John “Joe” Legradi, 17, of Kalaheo, was born May 27, 1986, at U.S. Naval Hospital, Pozzouli, Naples, Italy.
A senior at Waimea High School, he was a movie and music lover who planned to enlist in the military after graduation.
While growing up, he felt fortunate to have lived in Italy, Virginia, Ohio, Japan, California, and Hawai’i, but his best and closest friends were on the west side of Kaua’i.
He is survived by his parents, Stephen G. Legradi of Philadelphia, Penn., Cindy and Gerald Balderson of Kalaheo, a brother, Stephen, of Philadelphia, sister Gabrielle, of Redding, Calif.; grandmother Adele Legradi of Toms River, N.J., step-grandfather, Jerry Balderson of Council, Idaho, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
An open memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23 at Waimea Baptist Church. Afterward, friends may walk to the Waimea Pier for a final farewell.
Joe will be interred in Dresden, Ohio near his grandparents and Uncle John. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Waimea High School, Project Graduation, P.O. Box 339, Waimea, HI 96796, Attn: Gini Hori, or to the Lions Eye Bank where Joe donated his corneas that others may see.

Cardinal Kuhio “Cardy” Thomas, Jr., of Hilo, died Nov. 18, 2003, at his home at the age of 64.
Born Aug. 15, 1939, in Waipahu, Hawai’i, he was a retired district manager for the Hawai’i Tribune Herald. He was also a member of New Hope Christian Fellowship-Hilo, the Kamehameha Schools Alumni Choir, and the Keaukaha Aloha Club.
Friends may call at the New Hope Christian Fellowship Gathering Place in Hilo on Monday, Nov. 24, from 5-6 p.m. where a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. The family requests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Thomas of Hilo; daughter, Robin L. (John) Villanueva of Kekaha; sons, C. Kuhio (Jessica) Thomas III, and Chad K. (Marcel) Thomas, both of Hilo; sisters Rose (Gulston) Poepoe and Lurline Lee, both of Wahiawa, O’ahu, Barbara Puaa of Waimanalo, O’ahu and Loretta Hera of Lana’i City, Lana’i; sisters-in-law Judy Thomas of Makakilo, O’ahu; six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
