Darcie Vea took the first place in the girls bantam division-singles event to lead the Kaua’i contingent of junior bowlers who took part in the 32nd Annual Hilo Junior Invitational Thanksgiving Bowling Tournament recently. Vea finished with a pinfall of 486 to capture the gold in her event.
Kaua’i bowlers competed with other Junior Bowlers from around the state, bowling in Team, Doubles and Singles event starting from Thanksgiving Day and finishing with an awards banquet at the Naniloa Hotel.
Participating in the tournament were:
Bantam Division: Alexis Peterson, Darcie Vea and Kalen Iwai.
Junior Division: Bryce Teraoka, Randy Lau, Jenni Ueno, Megan Mukai, Jolene Koerte, VickyAnn Gapasen, Anthony Baptiste, Nathan Concepcion and Kekoa Masuda.
Coaches and chaperones accompanying the bowlers included Deborah Vea, Gail Masuda, Bruce Masuda, Daryl Teraoka and parent supporters Katherine Peterson and Dean Iwai.
Sponsors who contributed towards this off-island trip included the Richard Kawakami Foundation, Mayor Bryan Baptiste, Councilwoman JoAnn Yukimura, M. Niau Construction, Koloa Credit Union, Garden Island Carrier, Kaua’i Appraisals, Kaua’i Kookie Company, Meadow Gold and the Westside Rotary Club.
The Kaua’i Junior Bowler program is open to youth between the ages of 7 to 21, and meets Saturday mornings from 9:15 a.m. at the Lihu’e Bowling Center. Bowling is a lifetime sport, and the program invites youngsters to come and learn to bowl, or to learn to bowl better while having fun.
