Mariana Gonsalves of Lihu’e died at home on Dec. 14, at the age of 93.
Born in ‘Oma’o on Feb. 28, 1910 she was a homemaker.
Preceded in death by husband, John C. Gonsalves, and son, John K.R. Gonsalves. She is also survived by a son, James R. Gonsalves of Kekaha; two daughters, Virginia (Marvin) Perry of Lihu’e and Evangeline Hosino of Hayward, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. today, Saturday, Dec. 27, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kekaha. Mass is at 11 a.m., followed by burial at the church cemetery. Aloha attire is suggested.

Larry Balbarino
Larry Lorito Balbarino of Hilo died at Hilo Medical Center on Dec. 21, at the age of 66.
Born in Puhi on Jan. 10, 1937, he was a manager for the Transportation Security Administration at Hilo Airport, a U.S. Army veteran, former assistant airport manager for the state Department of Transportation, Aloha Airlines station manager, and member of the Kamehameha and Keaukaha canoe clubs.
He is survived by his companion, Karrie Butler of Hilo; sons, Michael (Davianne “Dee”) Balbarino of Kea’au; Larry (Chancey) Balbarino of Kaumana; and Morgan Balbarino of Waiakea-Uka; daughter, Kimberly May of Federal Way, Wash.; step-son, Anthony Ganir of Hilo; mother, Melitona Balbarino of Lihu’e; sister, Lorena (Rey) Aranio of Lihu’e; brothers, Patrick “Pudgie” Balbarino of Koloa and Melvin (Terry) Balbarino of Atsugi, Japan, and eight grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Dec. 29, at 4 p.m., with service at 5 p.m. at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home Chapel (Hilo) and again on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church (Hilo) at 10 a.m., with a celebration of mass at 12:15 p.m. A final farewell gathering for scattering of ashes will be held on Dec. 31, at Hilo Bay Front Beach Park at 5 p.m. Family welcomes cut flowers or lei and casual attire. Emilia Floresca
Emilia Espirito Floresca died Dec. 21 at Pleasant View Convalescent Hospital in Cupertino, Calif. at the age of 77.
Born on June 24, 1926, she is survived by son Fredrick Floresca, daughter Felicia Ann Floresca; grandchildren, Janelle and Steven Floresca; brothers: Antonio Floresca, Ernesto Floresca, and Benjamin Floresca, all of California.
Services will be held on Monday, Dec. 29, at Isher Mortuary in Los Gatos, Calif. Contact Connie Espirito at 245-6874 for information for sending flowers.
Albert Simao
Albert James Simao of Waimea died in Honolulu on Dec. 19, at the age of 35. He was born in Waimea on July 29, 1968.
He is survived by his father, Frank Simao; mother Carol (Pat) Simao; sister Peggy (Zeal) Simao; brother, Vance Simao; stepbrothers, Patrick Jr., Paul, Michael, Thomas and Timothy Apilado of Kekaha; maternal grandmother, Soonie Apilado; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Jan. 2, at 2 p.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kekaha. Mass will begin at 3 p.m., with inurnment to follow. Aloha attire is suggested.
