Violet Chu
Violet Mieko Morita Chu of Kapa‘a, died at her home on December 17, 2003 at the age of 84.
Born in Kealia on March 5, 1919, she was a retired forelady at Hawaiian Pineapple Cannery in Kapa‘a and she and her husband we’re the owners of Pau Hana Bar in Kapa‘a.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Chu, son William “Honey” Chu Jr., daughter, Marilyn Kai Chu, brother, David Morita. She is survived by her brothers, James “Jimmy” (Mitsuyo) Morita, George (Rose) Morita both of Kapa‘a, daughter-in-law Lei Chu of Makakilo, sister-in-law, Hong Nang Morita of Kapa‘a, 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at the Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Services at 10 a.m. will be officiated by Kahu Richard Kamanu. Burial to follow at the Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Anna Jennie K. Hatori Manoi of Kalaheo, died at her residence on December 19, 2003 at the age of 96. Born in Honaunau, South Kona on August 22, 1907.
She is survived by her daughter, Josephine Hazel Victor Soto; grandsons, Andrei (Lois) Soto, Irving “Sarge” (Norine) Soto, Stafford (Heide) Soto; grand-daughters, Lorinda “Lori” (Bruce) Cosier, OrianaLee “Ori” K. Soto; great-grandchildren, Ann-Janette (Alika) Toledo, Bricille and Jamieson Cosier, Michelle, Liane, Kalelei, Kailana, Kana‘e, Aikoa, Christopher and Janna Soto; great-great-grandsons, Trysen Cosier, Isaiah and Kobe Toledo. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Dec. 29, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church. Eulogy at 10:45 a.m. Mass to follow. Burial at the church cemetery.
Larry Balbarino
Larry Lorito Balbarino of Hilo, died at Hilo Medical Center on December 21, 2003 at the age of 66.
Born in Puhi on January 10, 1937, he was a manager for the TSA at Hilo Airport, an Army Veteran, Former Assistant Airport Manager for the Department of Transportation, Aloha Airlines Station Manager, member of the Kamehameha and Keaukaha Canoe Clubs.
He is survived by his companion, Karrie Butler of Hilo; sons, Michael (Davianne “Dee”) Balbarino of Keaau, Larry (Chancey) Balbarino of Kaumana, and Morgan Balbarino of Waiakea-Uka; daughter, Kimberly May of Federalway, Washington; step-son, Anthony Ganir of Hilo; mother, Melitona Balbarino of Lihu‘e; sister, Lorena (Rey) Aranio of Lihu‘e; brothers, Patrick “Pudgie” Balbarino of Koloa and Melvin (Terry) Balbarino of Atsugi, Japan, 8 grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Dec. 29, at 4 p.m. with service at 5 p.m. at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home Chapel and again on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with a celebration of mass at 12:15 p.m.
Final farewell gathering for scattering of ashes will be held on Dec. 31, at Hilo Bay Front Beach Park at 5 p.m. Family welcomes cut flowers or lei and casual attire. Condolences may be sent to: Michael Balbarino, HCR1 Box 4137, Keaau, HI 96749.
