Toys for Tots run tomorrow
The annual Toys for Tots Keiki Toy Run will be held Sunday, Dec. 14 starting at the Historic County Building in Lihu’e.
Registration is at 9 a.m., everyone leaves at 10 a.m.
Bring a toy to the county building to donate to a child this Christmas season.

BYU-Hawai’i’s Kalabic gets All-Conference honor
LAIE — Brigham Young University-Hawai’i men’s water polo player Vanja Kalabic received First-Team All-Conference recognition from the Western Water Polo Association for the second consecutive year.
Kalabic was the only Seasider honored by the conference.
Kalabic, a junior from Belgrade, Yugoslavia, scored 75 goals this season for the Seasiders, averaging 3.4 goals per game as he led BYU-Hawai’i to a 15-7 overall record and a 16th place finish in the national rankings. The Seasiders finished fifth in the WWPA tournament.
Kalabic scored at least one goal in every match for the Seasiders this year, and tossed a season-high eight goals against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and netted seven against University of California-Santa Cruz. Five times this year, he scored five goals or more in a match.
Jackson, Dahlberg named UH softball captains
HONOLULU — Senior outfielder Marie Jackson and junior catcher Denise Dahlberg were voted captains of the 2004 University of Hawai’i softball team.
Jackson batted .248 last season in 53 games with two homers, 23 RBI, and swiped 9-of-9 bases.
Dahlberg started all 60 games hitting .223 overall and earning her second-straight all-WAC honor.
The Rainbow Wahine’s first game will be an exhibition game Jan. 24 starting at 5 p.m.
The season officially gets underway Feb. 4-8 at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium with the Hawai’i Paradise Classic as UH hosts Tennessee, Oregon State, St. Mary’s (CA), Brigham Young and UAB.
New state canoe president elected
HONOLULU — John Kekua, Jr. of Moku O Hawai’i Outrigger Canoe Association and Kamehameha Canoe Club on the Big Island was elected the new president of the Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association at its annual meeting on Saturday.
The HCRA represents six outrigger canoe associations from all the islands, and over 10,000 paddlers.
Outgoing president Michael A. Tongg was also honored for his contributions to outrigger canoe paddling over the past two decades.
HCRA annually conducts the state-wide outrigger canoe racing championships in concert with one of the island outrigger canoe associations. Outrigger canoe racing is one of the fastest growing water sports, now counting clubs in 23 countries as participants.
