The new year is eight days away, so there is still time to buy a piece of traditional symbolism of good luck. And help out a scholarship fund at the same time.
As of yesterday, members, families and friends of the Hawaii Government Employees Association still had several dozen kadomatsu arrangements left after making 300 on Saturday.
The Japanese arrangement of three bamboo stalks tied together with rope symbolizes good luck for the new year. The bamboo forms the core of traditional kadomatsu.
The Hawaii Government Employees Association hall on ‘Akahi Street in Lihu’e was transformed into a production facility as HGEA members, families and friends, assisted by Warden Neal Wagatsuma and inmates from the Kauai Community Correctional Center, worked to finish off the 300-plus arrangements for this year’s sale.
