The top five finishers in the 1-mile run were girls as Sarah Faraola, 11, tripped the clock at 6:33 during the East Kaua’i Y’s Men’s/YMCA Youth Run that was held on Jan. 17 on the grounds of the Kilohana Estate in Puhi.
Cinzia Bruno, a student at Island School, followed a minute back of Faraola, with Amber Ruck filling in third place at 7:42.
Kyle Fleming, finishing sixth overall, was the first boy finisher in the 1-mile run, his time clocking in at 8:33.
Pierce Murphy, 10, was the first to cross in the 2-mile run, stopping the clock at 13:11, a full minute ahead of second place finisher, Iniki Jogger, an 11-year-old dog belonging to George and Donna Schultze, and the only dog registered to run. Iniki Jogger’s time was clocked in at 14:05.
Third place honors in the 2-mile run went to Alexander LaMadrid who clocked in at 15:16 with Tyler Tangelder finishing seven seconds back at 15:23.
Cayla Kitabayashi was the first girl to finish the 2-mile run, clocking in at 18:05.
Fifty-eight youngsters aged 1 to 13 years of age turned out for this year’s event that saw all runners receive a tee-shirt and became eligible for door prizes donated by community businesses.
Post-run refreshments were provided by the East Kaua’i Y’s Men’s Club.
