The popular Kauai Kitchens eatery in Lihu‘e was sold out of many of the familiar dishes patrons had come to expect Friday during the 30-year-old snack shops last day in business.
The County Council made a special trip to the local-style restaurant and presented a special award on Tuesday to mark the closing. Councilmembers presented the management and staff with a commendation of appreciation.
Kauai Kitchens was an off-shoot of the Kawakami family’s Big Save stores and once operated in Waimea, Koloa and ‘Ele‘ele, as well as Lihu‘e.
The Lihu‘e menu included specialities named after Kaua‘i media figures like Dickie Chang of Wala‘au and Ron Wiley of KONG radio.
