Monday, Jan. 26 is the grant application deadline for representatives of nonprofit organizations to request funds from Friends of Hawaii Charities, Inc.
Most funds to Friends of Hawaii Charities come from the Sony Open in Hawai’i PGA Tour event, held last weekend at Wai’alae Country Club on O’ahu.
Friends of Hawaii Charities, Inc. is itself a nonprofit organization formed in 1998 to provide funding for other Hawai’i nonprofit organizations.
Along with charity partner The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc., the tournament has raised and distributed over $3 million to hundreds of Hawai’i nonprofit organizations, including some on Kaua’i, through the Friends of Hawaii organization.
To obtain copies of grant guidelines and grant applications, please see the Web site, www.friendsofhawaii.org, e-mail friend@friendsofhawaii.com, or call 1-808-792-9339.
Grants are given to organizations that are public agencies or nonprofit organizations as defined by federal guidelines. The nonprofit funder awards money to help programs that benefit Hawai’i’s children, women and needy in the following areas: culture, arts and educational programs; health care and basic needs; and social services.
The Sony Open in Hawai’i is the first full-field event of the PGA’s 2004 season, with 144 of the world’s best golfers competing.
