Lihu’e — A pair of doubles by Kapa’a’s Ikaika Pezario led Kapa’a to a 5-4 win over Kalaheo while two-baggers from Nolan Albarado and Vincent Nitta led the Hanapepe Rivermen to their 15-2 showing over Lihu’e at the AJA Baseball games played Sunday, Jan. 18 at the Vidinha Stadium complex.
Kapa’a came back in the top of the ninth inning to push two runs across and held Kalaheo scoreless in the bottom of the frame to take their win, Owen Koishigawa getting the win on the hill in three innings pitched, allowing a run on three hits with three strikeouts. Stan Morinaka started the game and went six innings, allowing three runs on four hits with a pair of whiffs and three walks.
Kalaheo broke open a 3-3 deadlock in the bottom of the eighth to enjoy a brief lead before being overtaken by Kapa’a.
Jake Oketani, sharing mound duties with Kenderson Caspillo, suffered the loss for Kalaheo in five innings on the hill, allowing two runs on one hit with three strikeouts and five walks.
Sharing Pezario’s hits, Gordon Muramaru drove two runs across on a hit while scoring twice in the win.
Oketani led the Kalaheo bats with two hits, along with Palani Bukoski who was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI.
Keola McCallum and Garen Itamura each tallyed an RBI in their batting.
Wendall Nonaka drove in five runs on three hits to lead the Hanapepe Rivermen with Albarado and Dean Nonaka each driving in two RBI apiece in their victory.
Mikey Cardinez led the Lihu’e bats with an RBI, and Stanton Yoshimori was 2-for-2 in hitting.
Barry Kawamura suffered the loss for Lihu’e with eight runs allowed on ten hits with a strikeout and a walk while Wendall Nonaka picked up the win with just two runs allowed on three hits while striking out four and walking four.
