The ‘Oma’o fire in which John Fink, a 22-year Kaua’i resident, lost all his material possessions, is being investigated by the Kaua’i Police Department.
The Kaua’i Fire Department deemed the December 10 fire at 4257-A ‘Oma’o Road to be incendiary in nature, said Cyndi Mei Ozaki, county public information officer.
“It was an accelerated fire,” said Ozaki.
Police are now investigating the specific cause, she said.
Fink, who is working in Australia for the next few weeks, according to his cousin Christine French, could not be reached for comment.
He had been living in the house for 22 years, and went through two hurricanes in the house that he had rented.
“Nobody was hurt, thank God,” said Fink in an interview last month, but “I lost everything I had. It’s a tough thing to take,” Fink added, “it’s been a long, long road.”
