Frederick Smith Sr.
Frederick W. Smith Sr. died Jan. 17, 2004 at Lomalinda Hospital in Lomalinda, Calif. at the age of 75.
He was born and raised in Riverside, Calif. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a former real estate broker in Orange County, Calif. In 1980 he and his wife Lili Lu sailed their 40 foot sailboat from Mexico to Kaua‘i, where they retired in ‘Oma‘o. They kept their Kaua‘i home and built a home in Port Ludlow, Wash. They lived in Port Ludlow, Wash. from April 1993 to April 2000 when they returned to Kaua‘i.
He is survived by his wife Lili Lu, 10 children, 38 grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Jan. 19, at the Lomalinda Hospital Chapel. Immediately following, a family and friends picnic was held at the Orange Citrus Park in Riverside, Calif. His ashes will be spread in the Pacific Ocean.
Tyson Pagador
Tyson Pagador of Koloa, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 31, 2004 at the age of 22.
Born in Honolulu on April 8, 1981, he was a cook for Plantation Gardens & Resorts.
He is survived by his father, Wesley (Miriam) Pagador; mother, Elizabeth (George) Kawamura; grandparents, Pete Pagador, Loretta Agosto, Avelina Asuncion; four brothers, Brandon Agosto, Shaun Kawamura, Dustin Pagador, Taylor Pagador; two sisters, Tia Kawamura, Kiana Pagador; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Feb. 7, at St. Raphael’s Church from 8 to 10:45 a.m. Service to begin at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at the church cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Angeline Revelina Bristol
Angeline Revelina Bristol of Puhi, died at home on Jan. 30, 2004 at the age of 54.
Born in Lihu‘e, on May 24, 1949, she was a bank teller and also a retail salesperson.
She is survived by her parents, Federico and Revelina “Linda” Bristol; two brothers, C. Warren (Susan) Bristol of Woodenville, Wash. and Rodney (Paula) Bristol of Kapa‘a; sister, Veda Bristol of Puhi; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service has been scheduled at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Kapa‘a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
William Blackstad
William A. Blackstad, 98, died Jan. 13, 2004, in Ketchikan, Ak.
He was born on July 1, 1905, in Kaua‘i. He worked as a cannery worker and fishermen. Most recently, Blackstad resided in the Pioneer Home.
He was married to Pauline Blackstad for 75 years.
Blackstad is survived by his nephews, John Olsen of Seattle, Wash., and Fred Olsen of Salem, Ore.; nieces, Mae Leask of Seattle, Wash. and Inga Olsen of Ketchikan; as well as extended family in Hawai‘i.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline E. Blackstad, who died Jan. 8, 2004, in Ketchikan, Ak.
Funeral services for the Blackstads were held at the Bayview Cemetery in Ketchikan, Ak.
George Kauakahi
George Apache “Choki” Kauakahi died at his home in Kekaha on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 at the age of 68.
His dear friend of 11 years, Biene Putzier, helped his passage in the manner he designed. The mother of his children, his beloved wife, Lisa, died 12 years ago. He is survived by their three sons, George Gali, Keive Kauakahi, Popeye Kauakahi; and seven beloved grandchildren, Keive II, Sommer, Monica, Chloe, Justin, Tabitha, and Silas Kauakahi. His two living sisters are Lillian Lopez and Mary Jane Ferreira. His four surviving brothers are Francis Kauakahi, Wilfred Edwarte, Charlie Keaweehu and Elvin Kaiakapu. He has numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and ohana. George was deeply loved. He was an accomplished stone carver, musician and master carpenter. He will be greatly missed.
Fujiko Tao
Fujiko Tao of Koloa, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 2, 2004, at the age of 87.
Born in Koloa, Kaua‘i, on Nov. 30, 1916 she was a housewife.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice Tao of Los Angeles, Calif., and Bette (Stanley) Kobayashi of Kalaheo; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hisashi (Sue) Nakatsuka of Koloa and Mitsugi (Violet) Nakatsuka of Pearl City, O‘ahu; four sisters, Betty Kondo of Lawai, Sue Tamanaha of Kaneohe, Oahu, Lillian (Sam) Higuchi of Honolulu and Aiko (Takeshi) Yamashiro of Los Angeles, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 at Kalaheo Missionary Church; service officiated by Rev. Niles Kageyama, Senior Pastor of Koloa Missionary Church will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Leonard Labrador
Leonard Labrador of Koloa, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 1, 2004 at the age of 53.
Born in Lihu‘e on May 24, 1950, he was a sales representative for Up To Date Cleaners.
He is survived by his wife, Mercy Labrador of Koloa; daughter, Larissa Labrador of Washington; son, Landon Labrador of Oregon; parents, Loren and Lillian Labrador of Florida; brother, Loren (Liz) Labrador of Florida; sister, Dawn (Roy) Boyd of Florida, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at St. Raphael’s Church from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Memorial services to be held at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.
