Frederick W. Smith Sr. died Jan. 17, 2004 at Lomalinda Hospital in Lomalinda, Calif. at the age of 75.
He was born and raised in Riverside, Calif. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a former real estate broker in Orange County, Calif. In 1980 he and his wife Lili Lu sailed their 40-foot sailboat from Mexico to Kaua‘i, where they retired in ‘Oma‘o. They kept their Kaua‘i home and built a home in Port Ludlow, Wash. They lived in Port Ludlow, Wash. from April 1993 to April 2000, when they returned to Kaua‘i.
He is survived by his wife Lili Lu, 10 children, 38 grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Jan. 19 at the Lomalinda Hospital Chapel. Immediately following, a family-and-friends picnic was held at the Orange Citrus Park in Riverside, Calif.
His ashes will be spread in the Pacific Ocean.
