The weather held up, the crowd came from as far away as Kaua‘i’s Westside, the waves were breaking nice, but for the majority of the several hundred aspiring surfers, the Irons Brothers 3rd Annual Pine Tree Classic was an opportunity to meet Andy and Bruce Irons face-to-face, the Hanalei boys spending hours talking with young surfers and signing autographs.
All of this took place as a surf contest took advantage of the nice surf break, and when the sun started its descent behind the mountains, Nage Melamed topped the Girls 10-Under division, Elijah Crag was first in the Boys-8 Under, Keola Carreira pocked the top prize in the Boys 9-10, Kristen Steiner was tops in the Girls 11-14 division, Dylan Goodale ruled the Boys 11-12, Kalani Martin was first in the Boys 13-14.
Alana Blanchard took top honors in the Invitational Group #1 with Alex Smith rounding out the finishers, topping the Invitational Group #2.
A full list of winners can be found on page B2.
And, between the heats, there even was an opportunity to see Andy and Bruce catch some waves.
