KAPA‘A — It was an extra five minutes added to the break between the Junior Varsity and the tipoff of the Varsity contest Friday night, but it was five minutes well spent as the Kapa‘a High School basketball program spearheaded by coach Ed Phillips dedicated the Warrior Court of Honor.
Tommy Patch, the winner of the recent county Hoops Shoot event, was not going to miss this event as he entered the Bernice Hundley Gym.
His brother John Patch, a 2000 KIF all-star was one of the names on the plaque placed above the entrance to the gym at Kapa‘a High School.
Others recognized on the plaque include 2004 assistant basketball coach Nick Hill, 1999 KIF Player of the Year; Dustin Smith, 1999 KIF all-star; Kapu Hendrickson, 2000 KIF all-star; Rhyan Greenleaf, 2001 KIF all-star and Player of the Year; Kekoa Chun, 2002 KIF all-star; Garrett Danner, 2002 KIF all-star; Seth Yamamoto, 2002 KIF all-star, and Brandon Wong, 2003 KIF all-star who came home from the University of Hawai‘i for the recognition.
Additionally, the plaque recognizes coaches Michael Ban and Phillips for their work with Kapa‘a High School players.
Fans were welcomed to a special archived section of newspaper clippings and photos that was set up for display on the stage – a fitting tribute to those players who were honored, but unable to attend the dedication.
