WAIMEA -n Waimea’s Lanikai Kanahele and Kaua‘i’s Va‘afuti Tavana each finished with 16 points at the final buzzer Tuesday night.
Right behind, Waimea’s Jeremy Manuel and Kaua‘i’s Alec Reichle closed the books with a dozen markers each.
Where the difference ends is that Waimea had Casey Kaohelauli‘i adding eight points while the next Raider in the scoring lineup, Josh Bradbury, was held to just five points by a tough Menehune defense in their 52-41 win Tuesday night at the Clem Gomes Gym.
Kamu Kawaihalau, besides pestering Red Raider shooters throughout the night added five for Waimea along with Chad Barba who complimented Menehune guard Manuel.
Kaua‘i jumped out playing controlled ball against the Menehune, but a Kanahele putback of a Kaohelauli‘i shot attempt in the last 30 seconds of the opening quadrant pulled Waimea in the lead that continued to grow.
Nate Berales came up with a last-second field goal to pull the Kaua‘i JV to a 34-33 win in overtime behind eight points from Jordan Cox.
Dana Tayco finished with 11 points for the Waimea JV.
