John Vales
John Vales of ‘Oma‘o, died March 14, 2004, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 87.
A supervisor for McBryde Sugar, he was born July 20, 1916, in ‘Oma‘o.
He is survived by his wife: Mary T. Vales; two daughters: Mary Jane Borrero and Dolores Hatch; and one son: Richard Vales; sisters: Lucy (Sandalio) Pacheco, Virginia (Cobo) Torres, Carmen (Daniel) Rivera, Emily (Martin) Toledo; brothers: William (Lita) Vales and Henry (Dora) Vales; 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 9 to 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, at St. Raphael’s Church with service to begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Church Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Roberta Perpose Vidinha
Roberta Perpose Vidinha of Kekaha, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on March 8, 2004, at the age of 64.
Born in Binalonan, Pangasinan, Philippines on March 27, 1939, she was a domestic helper.
She is survived by husband, John M. Vidinha, Sr. of Kekaha, three stepsons: John Jr. (Christine) Vidinha of Lawa‘i, Michael (Lenora) Vidinha of Makaweli and Wayne, Sr. (Phyllis Vidinha of Kapa‘a; step daughter, Rose K. Dahle of Anahola; mother, Maria Perpose; four brothers, Ernesto (Leticia) Perpose of ‘Ele‘ele, Irenio (Asun) Perpose of Pangasinan, Federico (Violeta) Perpose of Pangasinan and Dionesio (Rose) Perpose of Pangasinan; seven sisters: Paulina Casogoc of Canada, Juliea (Trifon) Valdez of Pangasinan, Linda Akutagawa of Wailua, Yolly (Bayami) Diaz of Pangasinan, Glory (Mark) Balmaceda of Wailua, Francisca (Erming) Perpose of Laguna, Philippines and Evelyn (Paul) Fernandez of Pangasinan.
Friends may visit with the family at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Kekaha. Mass at 11:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Edith M. Nakano
Edith Mitsue Nakano of Hilo, Hawai‘i, died March 11, 2004, at Life Care Center of Hilo at the age of 81.
Born in Kihalani Homestead, she was a homemaker and a member of Konko Mission of Hilo and Lower Kaumana Kamiai.
She is survived by son Owen Nakano of Hilo and daughter Sharon Nakano of Hilo; two grandchildren; brothers, Yoshina (Haruyo) Shigemi of Hilo, Donald (Harriet) Shigemi of Hilo, sisters, Wakaio “Mildred” Okamoto of Kaua‘i, and Tsyuko “Kathleen” (Makoto) Saito of Honolulu.
Services will be held on Friday, March 19 at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home. Visitation begins at 3 p.m with service at 4 p.m. The family requests aloha attire.

Francisco Suan
Francisco Suan of Kapolei, died March 11, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center-West at the age of 70 .
He was born in Puhi, Kaua‘i on Feb. 4, 1934.
He is survived by sons: Gershon (Sandra) Suan and Timothy (Helen) Suan; daughter, Christianne (Timothy) Ennis, all of Houston, Texas; sisters, Patsy Canales of Honolulu, Dorothy (Deme) Agustin of Puhi, Kaua‘i, Mary Oshima of Honolulu, Josie (Joe) Gatiuan of Wailua, Kaua‘i, and Elizabeth (Roger) Batara of Honolulu; brother, Lawrence of Honolulu; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Monday, March 22, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 830 Main St. on O‘ahu; Mass at 10 a.m. Burial at 1 p.m. at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kane‘ohe.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Mortuary on O‘ahu.
