Waimea Boys Tennis Wins
The Waimea High School boys tennis teams defeated Island School, 5-0 on Saturday at the Hanapepe Tennis Courts.
Kollin Morikawa took the first singles by default with Bryan Hayashi defeating Justin Pelton, 6-2, 6-1 to claim the second singles.
Morikawa later enjoyed his second victory with an 8-4 win over Sam Dunham in an exhibition matchup.
The Menehune swept the doubles matches by default, the team of Jeffrey Kakuda and Donovan Manguba-Glover settling in the first doubles slot, the team of Jake Anderson and Scott Martin claiming the second doubles, and the team of Erwin Wright and Jonah Farias in the third doubles.
Kakuda and Manguba-Glover teamed to down the them of Justin Pelton and Sam Dunham, 8-1 in an exhibition match.
Kale Nakata and Jonathan Manguba-Glover also participated in exhibition matches.
Long distance canoe race rescheduled
The six-man long distance outrigger canoe race hosted by the Pu‘uwai Outrigger Canoe Club has been rescheduled for Saturday, Apr. 3
Everyone is still invited to cheer on their favorite teams with the run up the beach finish line always providing excitement for spectators.
The men’s teams will race from the Anahola River Mouth to Wailua beach starting at 8 a.m. followed by the Women, Mixed, and Na Opio racing from Wailua Beach to Kalapaki Beach starting at 10 a.m.
Organizers remind spectators that the course is subject to change due to weather conditions.
Prizes will be awarded in the following divisions – Novice, Open, Masters, Senior Masters, Golden, Na Opio, Da Finest Lads, and Da Finest Ladies.
A post-race lunch and awards will be held at the Nawiliwili Tavern starting at noon.
