Hughes “Tino” Naumu Jr.
Hughes “Tino” Nahuka Naumu Jr., of Las Vegas, Nev., died at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nev. on Oct. 6, 2003 at the age of 41.
Born in Waimea on March 28, 1962, he was a warehouseman at MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
He is survived by his parents, Hughes and Dorothy Bayot-Naumu of Las Vegas; sisters, Yvette Naumu-Elliott of Everett, Wash., Nadine Naumu-Alvarado of Lihu‘e; brothers Nathan Naumu of Oxnard, Calif., Troy Naumu of Las Vegas; nephews, Daniel and Timothy Cummings of Kapa‘a, Nathan Naumu Jr. of Alexandria, Va.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at the Seventh-Day Adventist church in Lawa‘i at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 27.
Mary Carlos
Mary Carlos of Kapa‘a died at home on Thursday, March 18, 2004, at the age of 84.
Born in Ilocos Norte, Philippines on March 5, 1920, she was a homemaker and an active member of the Kapaa Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Preceded in death by her husband Nemesio Mandac Carlos, she is survived by one son: Robert (Anita) Arconado of San Dimas, Calif.; three daughters: Evelyn (Bob) Haygood of Moss Point, Miss., Elizabeth Eaton of Kapa‘a and Erleen “Lynn” Spears of Kapa‘a; five grandchildren, Paul (Kathy) Spears of Wailua Homesteads, Randy Spears of Kapa‘a, Michael (Dee Dee) Arconado of Chino Hills, Calif, Michelle (Romie) Kingi of San Dumas, Calif. and Lisa Frankovitch of Portland, Ore.; and seven great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two brothers: Joseph (Leona) Miguel of Apple Valley, Calif. and Paul Miguel of Germany; sister Florida (Frank) Padron of Honolulu and sister-in-law Jane Miguel of Pasadena, Calif.
Visitation with the family will be held at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary from 4 to 6:30 p.m. with services at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 25. Burial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 26, at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Eugene W. Wells
Eugene W. Wells of Anahola died at home on March 16, 2004, at the age of 81.
Born in California on Dec. 6, 1922, he was a contractor and a master boat builder.
He is survived by two sons, Terry (Carole) Wells of Kilauea and John (Debbie) Wells of Washington; one daughter: Chris Thiemann of Colorado; five grandsons: Grant (Vindi) Wells of Kilauea, Matt and Nick Thiemann of Colorado and Kelly and Brian Wells of Washington; one granddaughter, Tiare Wells of Colorado; and one great granddaughter, Erin Wells of Kilauea.
Friends are welcome to join the family to celebrate his life Saturday, April 10, at the Nawiliwili Yacht Club at 2 p.m.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Mark Ransom Kaina
Mark Ransom Kaina, 42, of Honolulu, died March 2, 2004, at Kaiser Foundation Hospital on O‘ahu. Born July 20, 1961 in Wailuku, Maui, he was raised on Kaua‘i.
He is survived by his wife, Annabelle; sons, Mark and Kaipo; daughter, Angela; mother: Barbara Goodwin; stepfather: Robert Goodwin; brothers: Eugene, Willy, Robert and Tracy; sisters: Eulyn, Darlyn, Clara and Sandra; and three grandchildren.
A ceremony and service will be held Saturday, March 27, at 11 a.m. at Anahola Beach Park. Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Mortuary.
Hannah Kahawaii Kaili
Hannah Kahawaii Kaili, 78, of Provo, Utah, died March 18, 2004. She was born Aug. 1, 1925 in Kalihikai, Kaua‘i, to Louisa and David I-Niau-Haleakala, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Educated in Hanalei, she was a laborer in Hanalei and Waimea taro (kalo) fields, pineapple fields, and sugar cane fields of Gay & Robinson in Makaweli, and a hotel housekeeper.
She stayed with daughter Dora and her husband Kent in Provo, Utah, from July 2000. She is also survived by son Harrom (Marvel Young) Kaili of Puyallup, Wash.; daughter Harriet (William) Malapit of Maui; sister Louisa (Larry) Tachikawa; sisters-in-law Lei Niau and Helen Dotimas; brother-in-law George Kahalekomo, Jr.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and up to a sixth generation of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 20 siblings, oldest son Abraham Stanley Kualu-Kaili and husband Joseph N. Kualu-Kaili.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, April 1, at the Kekaha Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, from 6 to 9 p.m., and again on Friday, April 2, from 9 a.m. Services will be held at noon Friday, April 2, followed by burial at Kauai Veteran’s Cemetery in Hanapepe.
The family suggests casual attire. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Nora Setsumi Tadani
Nora Setsumi Tadani of Waimea, Kaua‘i, died at home on March 17, 2004 at the age of 70. Born in Kaumakani, Kaua‘i on Aug. 29, 1933, she was a postal clerk. She is survived by husband, Makoto; three sons, Curtis Tadani of Waimea, Terence (Annette) Tadani of Kaneohe, O‘ahu and Alvin Tadani of Lihu‘e; two grandchildren; brother, Masashi Takemoto of Hanapepe; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Services were private.
Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
