Jake Chrisman, Player of the Year
BILLINGS, MT — Brigham Young University-Hawai‘i’s junior forward Jake Chrisman was selected as the Pacific West Conference Player of the Year by the league’s coaches.
Chrisman, from Provo, Utah, also a Daktronics All-West Region first team selection, led the PacWest scoring at 22.7 points per game and was five-time player of the week selection. Chrisman also ranked in the top ten in the conference for rebounding, field goal percentage, and blocked shots.
Also earning a spot on the All-Pacific West first team for the Seasiders were Shawn Opunui, a sophomore guard from Orem, Utah, and Austin Smylie, a sophomore forward out of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Opunui led the conference in three-point percentage, hitting 54.1 percent, and was top ten in points per game and assists per game. Smylie led the conference in field goal percentage with 62 percent, and was top ten in rebounds per game and points per game.
Joining the three Seasiders were Aaron Abrams, a senior guard at Hawai‘i Pacific University, and Jerett Skrifvars, a sophomore forward from Montana State-Billings University.
Coach Ken Wagner from Brigham Young University- Hawai‘i was named PacWest Coach of the Year for guiding the Seasiders to another Pacific West Conference Championship and the No. 2 seed in the coming NCAA West Regional Tournament.
Wagner coached BYUH to a 22-5 regular season record, and is 272-134 in 14 seasons at BYUH. This is his third straight Coach of the Year award from the PacWest Conference.
Ten Star All-Star Hoops Camp
Applications for the Ten Star All-Star Summer Basketball Camp are now being accepted and evaluated.
The invitation only camp is open to boys and girls ages 10 through 19 years old, and college scholarships are possible for players selected to the All-American team.
Past participants include Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse, Grant Hill, and Antawn Jamison.

Kawaikini hosts canoe race
The Kawaikini Canoe Club will host its first annual long distance race on Saturday, Mar. 13 at Hanama‘ulu Bay.
The women’s long distance race will start at 8 a.m. from Hanama‘ulu to Wailua and back.
The men will kick off from 10:30 from Hanama‘ulu to Kealia Point and back.
Spectators and participants are welcome to this family fun event.
For visitors, this is an opportunity to view an ancient and exciting Hawaiian sport, and race organizers welcome you to come and watch.

The entry fee is $100 for each six-person crew, and canvas is mandatory.
